What Are Conditional Add-Ons And How To They Work?

A conditional add-on is an option that will only appear if a customer makes a prior choice about an add-on. They can be created for any type of add-on and can have an additional cost or not.

An example would be if the customer gets a "Choice of Salad" option with a meal and they get to choose Garden Salad or Caesar Salad.

You can create a conditional add-on so if they select Garden Salad then another drop down will appear and they can choose their Salad Dressing option.

Important Note: Conditional Add-ons can only go one layer deep. You are not able to add a conditional add-on on top another conditional add-on.

Example for Important Note: Let's say you want to add a Combo Add-on option for a Sandwich that includes a choice of Chips + a Drink both for a single specific price.

Such as: "Add a Bag of Chips + Drink to your sandwich for only $4.00 more". If you want to offer this for Delivery (or you want the customer to choose before pickup), you will need to know the exact flavor of chips and the drink choice.

You might think that you could create a checkbox Extra to "Add Chips + Drink" at $4.00, then once that is checked the customer could select their Chip Choice (which would be a conditional add-on at one layer deep), then on top of the Conditional you want them to choose a Drink choice. This specific setup is not possible.

What you CAN do is the following:

1st: Create an Add-on "Option" Drop down box called "Make it a Combo" with the line choice of:

Add BBQ Chips + Drink $4.00

Conditional Add-on added to the above line for the Drink Choice (1 layer deep)

Add Plain Chips + Drink $4.00

Conditional Add-on added to the above line for the Drink Choice (1 layer deep)

Add Salt & Vinegar Chips + Drink $4.00

Conditional Add-on added to the above line for the Drink Choice (1 layer deep)

NO Combo $0.00

No conditional for the above line

And so on - Create as many Option lines as you need, but be sure to give the customer the option for "NO Combo" at $0.00 in case they don't want to order a combo.

The Conditional Add-on is also created as an Add-on "Option" and you would use the same conditional for each Option line since the drink choices would all be the same. Be sure to remember the name of the Conditional Add-on that you created.

First you will need to create both add-ons as you usually would. You can find instructions for that here:

CREATING ADD-ONS

Once you have all the needed options created it is time to assign the conditional add-on.

1. Click Restaurant Manager on the top of the black bar at the top of the page

2. Under Menu Settings, click Menu Item Add-ons.

  1. You will need to first assign the prime options to the item. Click the green Assign Add-Ons to Menu Items button.

4. Find the menu item you need, then to the right under Action, click the link "Assign or remove add-ons"

5. Click the check box next to your add-on (In the example, Choice of Salad)

6. Next, you will need to assign the Conditional Add-ons to Primary Add-on.

Return to the Menu Item Add-on Page (See #1 & 2 above),

Click the Manage Conditional Add-Ons link, as shown below

7. Find the add-on you would like to add secondary choice to. (In the first example, the Choice of Salad and under it would be Garden Salad.)

8. The "Choice of Salad" is your Add-on Option, each Option has separate line options.

In this case the first line option is "Garden Salad" > to the right you will be presented with a blank box that allows you to search for an addon to assign as your conditional add-on. (In the example, the Salad Dressing option.)

Once you have selected a conditional for the box, it will automatically appear with a box to the right that says "Remove". If you no longer need a conditional, then you would "Remove" it from this location.

Conditional Add-ons can be either "Extras" or "Options" and you can also assign a single conditional to an "Extra" or "Option line item" a single layer deep.
